If a particular page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is broken, the site visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that may make the visitor leave your site. A solution in cases like this is a function made available from some website hosting service providers - the option to set your own custom-made error pages that shall have the exact same design as your website and which can contain any images or text that you would like based on the specific error. There are 4 standard errors that could occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see a webpage, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to view a certain page; and 404, in case a link that you've clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In any of these scenarios, site visitors shall be able to see your customized content as opposed to a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
If you order a cloud hosting service from us, you'll be able to set custom made error pages for your websites easily, as this feature is part of all of our plans. After you have created the files and uploaded them to your web hosting account, you can check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and click on the Edit button for the selected domain or subdomain. Inside the pop-up which will be displayed, you'll see drop-down menus for all four sorts of errors and for each one of them you can choose an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a customized page. If you select the third option, you should only enter the URL to the file that you've uploaded then save the change. A different way to set custom error pages is to set up an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder and to include a couple of lines of program code in it. If you do not have previous experience or if you're just not sure how to do this, you can just copy/paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that subject.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
All of the semi-dedicated hosting services which we provide support customized error pages and it will not take more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this function. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel where you'll have to type in the links to the custom-made files through very simple drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Of course, you need to upload them to your account before that. In case you don't need to employ this function at some point, you can easily disable it just as easily and pick an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable when your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you can also use an .htaccess file to allow the custom error pages. The file should include a particular line of code plus a link for every single error type and you can discover an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
